Do I need insurance to access the STRIDE team?
No. The team provides services to undergraduate, graduate, and professional students at UC San Diego with or without insurance. Our services include social and medical approaches to transition. Appointments with STRIDE coordinators do not require you to have insurance. If you are seeking medical specialty gender health care then you will want insurance to alleviate the cost of care.
Do I have to pay for appointments with the STRIDE Team?
No. Appointments with the Gender Affirming Care Coordinators are free of charge to UC San Diego undergraduate, graduate, and professional students.
What if I don’t have UC SHIP?
The Gender Affirming Care Coordinators can meet with you and help you coordinate a gender health care plan with your current insurance even if it is not UC SHIP. Your appointment with the Gender Affirming Care Coordinators are free of charge

What type of training has the team received?
The STRIDE program is staffed with two Gender Affirming Care Coordinators. They are both registered professional clinical counselors and both providers have lived experience and professional training in providing gender affirming care services. Coordinators hold memberships with the World Professional Association for Transgender Health (WPATH) and The American Association of Sexuality Educators, Counselors and Therapists (AASECT).
